Chuck C. Johnson: Journalist (In Three Images)

Earlier this year, Chuck C. Johnson got me suspended from Twitter for posting his personal information, in the form of a screenshot that included his telephone number. This is a telephone number he guards zealously:

Chuck had no problem characterizing this information as personal and inviolate if he could punish someone on Twitter who repeatedly does things like make these kinds of tweets about him.

In fact, Chuck brags about this kind of hypocrisy. Unless he’s freely disseminating his own personal information in a searchable public forum, he will use any mechanism available to shut you down. He has a zero-tolerance policy about this:

If you’re not Chuck C. Johnson, however, you’re out of luck. You have no rights. Despite the fact that it is a long-accepted custom by virtually everyone else in the journalism community—i.e. the community of which he thinks he is an accredited member—that the identities of rape victims be protected, Chucky has a different take. Here:

Basically, Chuck, who paints himself as a staunch protector of personal information and a crusader for some higher truth, is threatening to extort a confession out of a rape victim by posting details of her personal life and identity.

“Jackie” has to “tell the truth"—i.e., deny that she was raped, whether it’s true or not,  merely because Chuck has decided she was not—otherwise he will retaliate by flooding the internet with her personal information, which will doubtless be amplified by the death and rape threats of dozens of "Men’s Right’s Activists.” This kind of sustained harassment is the sort of toxic, violative behavior that can drive rape victims to suicide.

That is Chuck C. Johnson. A hypocrite who will threaten a woman with online scrutiny that could drive her to take her own life—unless she tells him a story he wants to hear, regardless of whether it’s true. It’s about ethics in rape journalism.

If you have a Twitter account, you can click on a link to this tweet and report it for harassment. Unfortunately, the Twitter form doesn’t have a box for “risking hounding a woman to death to advance your C-list career.”

UPDATE:

Allegedly, Chuck is affiliated with the “@TMZ_Politics” account, which does not seem to be affiliated with TMZ. That account has posted the full name, address, email and phone number information of “Jackie.” You can report the TMZ_Politics account for impersonation and tweet at @TMZ to let them know someone is making them look worse. Or you can use this harassment report form whose name and link fields have already been filled out for you.
